God is Good

that which is morally right; righteousness

"God is good." How many times have we heard it? I think we have become so familiar with these words that they've lost their true weight. In the same way that familiar sayings bounce off your ears rather than penetrating your conscious thoughts, these words exist as a distant truth.

It's easy to see God's goodness in the joyful seasons of life. Even in seasons that feel like a dry wilderness, we can trudge the scorching desert until we find an oasis that reminds us that He is kind and intrinsically good.

However, there are times in life when pain catches us with all our defenses down, when we trusted and believed and we were left with nothing but heartache and questions...It is in those times that God's goodness is most obscure.

It's crazy how we can be left feeling so bereft that it eclipses the goodness of God. I've been there. And by God's grace I made it to the other side. I don't want to offer you weak platitudes today. I just want to encourage you to hold on, even if only by a thread. There is an "other side" for you too and when you emerge, His goodness won't be a faint sliver of light at the edge of some dark cloud. It will have been a continuous thread of hope woven throughout your season of suffering.

It will be in the dew drops on each blade of grass in the morning. It will be in the warm sunshine that kissed your cheek when life didn't even make sense. It will be in the way He carried you through the days you didn't think you'd make it. He wanted me to remind you today that even here, He is good, and you are loved.
