Breaking Stubborn Soul Ties

The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

1 Cor 6:12-13b

Recently, the Lord He showed me an image of an incredibly tangled rope that was also tied in a knot that seemed impossible to undo. I couldn't tell where the rope began nor where it ended. He used that image to show me that some of His children are dealing with stubborn soul ties that seem impossible to break.

I'm not here to debate whether soul ties are real. Whether we want to call it by another name or not, something intangible and spiritual happens when we join ourselves with someone

physically. It is a mystery, described in the Bible as "two becoming one". Sex is meant to seal a covenant or bond between a man and his wife. However, we live in a culture where that idea is thought to be antiquated, and where sex is treated as an insignificant thing. However, we often see the painful results of living contrary to God's word in this area. God's goal today is to reach His sons and daughters who have been fighting to get free from stubborn soul ties.

How do you know if you have a soul tie with someone? Here are some of the signs:

1. You have an unhealthy and unexplainable draw towards a person (feeling unable to resist them even though you have a strong desire to be free). This looks like a prolonged cycle of breaking up and getting back together or wanting to leave that person but not having the will to do so

2. Battling the same sins and strongholds as that person. For example, someone who has never really struggled with anxiety, may suddenly have debilitating symptoms after having sex with someone has anxiety.

3. You compromise God's standards and your own standards because you are afraid of losing that person.

4. You dream about that person often (some of these dreams may be sexual)

5. This one applies to those who have moved on, gotten engaged/married to someone else, yet you are still preoccupied with thoughts about that person.

God has seen His sons and daughters alike battling for their freedom from these stubborn soul ties that seem impossible to break. The good news is that God is stepping in to do what you cannot. What some of you have been trying to do (in vain) in your own strength, He is about to do FOR you. He's breaking stubborn bonds and entanglements. Even soul ties that have been lying dormant, in that, you haven't been confronted with the pull a certain person has on you because of physical distance, lack of communication etc, He's breaking those too.

The Lord is so moved with compassion for us and He wants us free even more than we want to be free. All He needs is our agreement and cooperation. He needs our "yes" even when we don't know how He will do it. Will you give the Lord your 'yes' even though it may mean temporary heartbreak?

The good news is that the blood of Jesus is stronger than any soul tie and we have the power of prayer on our side. Join with me in prayer as we break free from these stubborn bondages.

Prayer: Father, forgive me for turning away from You, for seeking fulfilment in mere human beings. I ask forgiveness for giving my body to those who were not qualified to handle me. I renounce every vow and declaration that I have made that was contrary to Your word. In Jesus' name, I break every soul tie that was established through my disobedience. Lord, I thank You for your forgiveness. Teach me to guard my heart so that I can walk uprightly before You, in Jesus' name. Amen.
